Meet at the Cronyn Observatory 5:30am Friday morning for some stargazing, breakfast will be provided compliments of CLRN and CPSX, followed by a NASA TV viewing of the LCROSS impact into the Moon at 7:30am sharp! All are welcome!

Western's 6th annual Planetary Science and Exploration Public Lecture a success!
On Friday March 6th, Dr. Seth Shostak of the SETI Institute delivered a very exciting talk titled "When Will We Discover the Extraterrestrials?" to an audience of 200 space enthusiasts and professionals. Dr. Shostak also present a research talk earlier in the day as part of the CPSX Colloquium series (Joint Presentation of the Deptartments of Earth Sciences and Physics & Astronomy), titled "Efficiency in SETI". CPSX would like to thank Dr. Shostak for making our 6th Annual Public Lecture a success, and an enjoyable day!
CPSX/CLRN Grand Opening a Success!
Thanks to all those who joined us on Friday February 27th for the Grand Opening of the Centre for Planetary Science & Exploration (CPSX) and the Canadian Lunar Research Network (CLRN). The event was a success!
The afternoon and evening featured talks from a NASA lunar scientist, a former astronaut, a representative from the Canadian Space Agency, a Google Lunar X Prize contestant and MDA's lunar and planetary rover team, as well as interactive displays of research conducted by CPSX and CLRN researchers at Western, MDA, OpenLuna, and Odyssey Moon. The Space Society of London and the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada London Centre also joined us to celebrate the International Year of Astronomy. The reception was sponsered by MDA.
Announcing the Solomon Family Award
Awarded to a full-time student in Year 2 of an Honors Bachelor of Science degree with an Honors Specialization in Planetary Science based on academic achievement (minimum 70% average in Year 1) and demonstrated financial need. Tues Nov 25: SSoL presented "Russia and the Moon", with Dr. Phil Stooke.
Phil Stooke described his visits to space sites in Russia as he collected information for his Atlas of Lunar Exploration, and what he learned - or didn't learn - about the Soviet Union's lunar exploration program.
Early Wed morning, Oct 15, Western's Southern Ontario Meteor Network recorded a bright fireball, just north of Guelph. If you witnessed this event, or have found suspected meteorite fragments, please contact us!

September 2007 - UWO Planetary Science Graduate Program NOW available!
Western's Interdisciplinary Planetary Science Graduate Program has been officially approved and is now underway! Western offers the only Graduate-level Planetary Science degrees in Canada, drawn from an increasing number of graduate course offerings in the Departments of Physics and Astronomy, Earth Sciences, and Geography.
Students interested in graduate work in the Planetary Science program are encouraged to contact individual faculty participating in Planetary Science Program about the possible projects within their respective home departments.
